Mike Flanagan‘s “Carrie” TV series has cast a key role. Variety has learned exclusively that Siena Agudong has joined the Amazon adaptation of Stephen King’s iconic novel in the series regular role of Sue Snell.

This marks the latest “Carrie” casting news this week. Variety previously reported that Summer H. Howell is currently negotiating for the title role in the series.

The show was initially reported to be in the works at Amazon in October 2024. There has been no formal announcement of a series pickup at this time, but it is believed to be coming imminently. According to sources, “Carrie” is gearing up to shoot this summer in Vancouver.

The series’ logline describes it as a “bold and timely reimagining of the story of misfit high-schooler Carrie White, who has spent her life in seclusion with her domineering mother. After her father’s sudden and untimely death, Carrie finds herself contending with the alien landscape of public High School, a bullying scandal that shatters her community, and the emergence of mysterious telekinetic powers.”

In the novel and subsequent film adaptation, Sue initially joins in bullying Carrie but later decides to try to befriend her. Amy Irving played the character in the original film and the sequel “The Rage: Carrie 2,” with Kandyse McClure and Gabriella Wilde playing her in subsequent “Carrie” films.

Agudong most recently starred in the Tubi film “The QB and Me,” which she also executive produced. She was also the female lead in Kevin Smith’s coming of age film “The 4:30 Movie,” and will star in Juan Pablo Arias Munoz’s directorial debut, “What She Doesn’t Know.” Her TV credits include both the “Resident Evil” series and “No Good Nick” at Netflix, as well as shows like “Hawaii Five-O” and “Nicky, Ricky, Dicky, and Dawn.”

She is repped by Gersh, Trilogy Talent, and Hirsch Wallerstein.

Flanagan will write and executive produce “Carrie” as well as serving as showrunner and directing. Trevor Macy also serves as an executive producer.

“Carrie” was King’s first novel and was originally published in 1974. The book went on to become a best seller and was subsequently adapted into a film in 1976 with Sissy Spacek in the title role. Directed by Brian DePalma, the film grossed over $30 million on a reported budget of less than $2 million. It is widely cited as one of the best horror films of all time.
