“No New Sun Can Rise”: Mabel Chinomona Warns ZANU PF Critics
President of the Senate of Zimbabwe and Zanu PF Women’s League Secretary, Mabel Chinomona, has made a bold statement on ZANU PF’s succession battles, declaring that “no new sun can rise before the previous one has set.” This statement appears to be a direct reference to President Emmerson Mnangagwa as the current “sun” and a warning to those opposing the party’s 2030 Agenda.
In a video shared by the official ZANU PF Twitter account, Chinomona addressed the Women’s League, asserting that Zimbabwe would never falter under their leadership. She also took aim at social media influencers, accusing them of “crowning and giving out positions” without authority.

“President Mnangagwa Has Been Too Soft”
Chinomona did not hold back in her criticism of those who use social media to attack the president. She claimed that such behaviour is unique to Zimbabwe and called for stronger action against it.
“I am going to appeal to President Mnangagwa because he has been too soft. People are being paid to insult him on social media. This only happens in Zimbabwe, and it must stop,” Chinomona declared.
Her comments have sparked mixed reactions, with some praising her loyalty to the party and others questioning her stance.
Mixed Reactions Flood Social Media
The video has ignited a firestorm on social media, with many users drawing parallels to past political events.
Setfree Nherera Mafukidze, a Twitter user, criticised Chinomona’s remarks, saying:
“Mabel Chinomona is very forgetful. Mnangagwa ousted Mugabe, so what is this nonsense about ‘hakuna zuva rinobuda rimwe richiripo’? Zimbabwe is in very bad hands with these politicians in ZANU PF.”
Another user, LynneM, challenged Chinomona’s authority, stating:
“Dear Mabel Chinomona: Just to remind you that you and your cohort have no title deeds for Zimbabwe. It is our country, all of us. Don’t force us to respect corrupt leaders just because they are old.”
Meanwhile, Peter Mupondi expressed frustration, tweeting:
“The rate at which idiots are multiplying is astounding! Now they have quickly forgotten that ‘Zuva rakabuda rimwe riripo’ when Mnangagwa rebelled against Mugabe.”
A History of Political Parallels
Chinomona’s statement has drawn comparisons to past political dynamics within ZANU PF. User Mampara recalled:
“In 2017, didn’t a new sun rise while Mugabe was still in power? Mabel Chinomona was a well-known Mugabe praise singer. She would lead the singing at most occasions such as congress.”
Others, like GHOST, questioned the consistency of her stance:
“What did you do to Mugabe? You removed him with votes, didn’t you?”
The debate continues to rage online, with many Zimbabweans expressing their views on the future of the country’s leadership.
