News surfaced that 36-year-old Dr. Ikenna Erinne, a US-based Nigerian cardiologist, allegedly died by suicide. This followed a court ruling that mandated him to pay $15,000 per month in child support to his ex-wife.

According to reports, Dr Erinne took his life on Sunday, January 26, 2025, after a prolonged and contentious divorce battle with his estranged wife. The legal dispute involved custody of their children, culminating in a court order that imposed significant financial obligations on the doctor.

Sources revealed that Dr Erinne was devastated by the court’s decision, which not only resulted in a hefty child support payment but also caused him to lose his medical license.

Clayton Udo, a Nigerian-American and self-described expert in psychological and mental abuse, confirmed the tragic incident in a Facebook post. Udo highlighted the financial and emotional toll the case had taken on Dr. Erinne, citing the ruling as a critical factor that led to the doctor’s untimely death.

“Dr. Ikenna Erinne’s story is a heartbreaking reminder of the challenges African men face in the United States. He was driven to despair after spending thousands of dollars in legal fees, only to be ordered to pay $15,000 monthly in child support and lose his medical license.”

His death has sparked conversations about mental health, systemic challenges within the legal system, and the emotional toll of prolonged divorce proceedings.

Obim Onujiogu, a member of the Nigerian-American community, also confirmed Dr Erinne’s passing on social media, describing him as a compassionate healer and a dedicated family man.

“In Loving Memory of Dr. Ikenna C. Erinne. He was a beloved father, son, brother, and a well-respected cardiologist. His sudden passing is a great loss to all who knew him,” Onujiogu wrote.

Funeral Arrangements and Tributes

Dr Erinne’s family announced that a memorial service would be held at Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home in Elkridge, Maryland, on Monday, February 3, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by interment at Meadowridge Memorial Park.

Dr Erinne is survived by his two children, Ugonna and Munachi, as well as his parents, Engr. Chris and Mrs. Chinwe Erinne, and his siblings, Chuks, Onyi, Kenny, and Gechi.
