Whenever I welcome out of town friends into Atlanta, I like to take them to two places in the city, the Georgia Aquarium and Mary Mac’s Tea Room. So I’m pleased to see that this iconic restaurant has reopened after a collapsed ceiling. —Ellie White-Stevens, Editor, The Citizen

Atlanta Landmark Celebrates Reopening of Skyline and Ms. Elle’s Dining Rooms

with Complimentary Peach Cobbler for Guests

ATLANTA, GA (Feb. 12, 2025) – Mary Mac’s Tea Room, the Midtown Atlanta landmark affectionately known as “Atlanta’s Dining Room” and beloved for its classic Southern cuisine, has reopened its popular Skyline Room and Ms. Ellen’s Room.

While Mary Mac’s was closed, its owners renovated the entire restaurant. Guests will enjoy a refreshed and modern version of one of Atlanta’s oldest and most historic restaurants, with upgraded décor, fresh paint, new carpets, and a renewed focus on the Southern hospitality that makes Mary Mac’s Tea Room special.

“The Skyline Room and Ms. Ellen’s Room are essential parts of Mary Mac’s, as much as our delicious menu of authentic meatloaf, fried chicken, seafood, and other Southern favorites,” says Chad Reynolds, Mary Mac’s director of operations. “Just about every day, someone asks us when we will be open and shares memories of special occasions spent here, whether it’s wedding anniversaries, graduation dinners, or one of their favorite spots with out-of-town guests.”

“Mary Mac’s is all about Southern food, family tradition, and hospitality,” says Harold Martin, Mary Mac’s owner. “And Ms. Ellen’s Room is meaningful to me, as it is named after the team member who welcomed me to Mary Mac’s as a customer nearly 30 years ago. We’re thrilled to welcome Atlanta residents and visitors back to the restaurant for many more years of fantastic meals and memories.”

This marks the first time the Skyline Room has been open since part of the restaurant’s roof collapsed in March 2024. Ms. Ellen’s Room, named for Ellen Fraley, who worked at Mary Mac’s Tea Room for over 35 years, was closed during this time. Mary Mac’s plans to commemorate the reopening of both dining rooms with complimentary Georgia peach cobbler for all guests from February 17 to February 23.
