Tears Over How Dad Helps His Gen Z Daughter: ‘It’s Treepod’

A dad’s thoughtful invention has been hailed online after he built a contraption for his daughter to film the perfect social media content, without having to worry about her phone.

Zoe Kerr, 23, often filmed TikTok videos by propping her phone against the tree outside, which required careful balancing and precision to ensure the phone didn’t fall. It certainly wasn’t ideal, so her dad, Norman Kerr, 50, set to work on finding a solution. He used leftover pieces of wood to form a makeshift phone stand that he could drill into the tree trunk, much to his daughter’s surprise.

The Gen-Zer (born between 1997 and 2012) had no idea that her dad came up with this idea. It was a complete surprise when he showed her his creation, as she told Newsweek that it’s the best invention she “never knew [she] needed.”

“He created a tripod essentially for my phone,” Kerr, from Auckland, New Zealand, said. “He gathered a few pieces off of cut wood he had lying around and drilled it all together to make the perfect little stand.

“I didn’t ask him to make it either. I literally got home from work and walked in to see him making it, which was so cute. He didn’t even realize I was filming,” she continued.

Kerr shared the footage of her dad perfecting his newest installation on TikTok (@_zoekerr). After all, he built the phone stand so she could film videos, so it would have been rude not to test it out straight away.

Since the video of her dad’s thoughtful gesture was posted, it has delighted internet users and generated more than 4.7 million views and 1 million likes at the time of writing. The online reaction has gone far beyond anything Kerr had expected, and she has loved seeing so many people praise her dad’s kindness and considerate nature.

She told Newsweek: “It’s been crazy. I’ve had so many famous people commenting, people I look up to, and I have had a lot of media attention as well. I never would have expected this, but I guess TikTok is a crazy world.

“So far, I have used the tripod a few times and it is great, I can now successfully film my outfit checks, so it is a massive slay. I would highly recommend.”

In just a matter of days, the viral TikTok clip has gained more than 4,300 comments as many social media users praised the dad’s creativity.

One comment reads: “dad of the year!” Another TikTok user responded: “It’s treepod.”

“Peak girl dad,” joked another comment. While one TikToker added: “You are being loved to the point of invention.”
