A Pennsylvania father is facing homicide charges after his girlfriend allegedly beat his 2-year-old child to death.

Brett Bissett, 25, has been charged with homicide, endangering the welfare of children and recklessly endangering another person.

Bissett’s son Bentlee Myers, 2, was found, as CBS News reported, “unconscious, bruised and blue in the face,” on August 16. Bentlee was taken to the hospital and was later declared brain dead and died on August 19. Bentlee died of “severe physical trauma” according to the district attorney’s office.

When Bentlee was originally discovered at Brianna Bloyer’s residence on Old Lake Lynn Road in Springhill Township it is said she had been caring for the child for approximately two weeks, according to Law & Crime. An adult visiting the home noticed the child was unresponsive and did not appear to be breathing.

Bloyer, 30 allegedly made no attempts to contact 911.

“Miss Boyer had moved to the area at some point in 2023, had entered a relationship with the child’s father. She is pregnant with his child, and she was the primary caretaker while he was working,” Fayette County District Attorney Mike Aubele said

Fayette County District Attorney Mike Aubele felt that Bentlee suffered ongoing abuse from Bloyer and Bisset knew and chose to protect his pregnant girlfriend over his child. Court documents stated that Bissett had seen Bloyer assault and try to assault the 2-year-old on multiple occasions.

Brissett was originally charged earlier in the month with tampering with evidence, obstructing the administration of law and hindering apprehension. Aubele said Bissett “went out of his way to obstruct our investigation” and even left the area with Bloyer for “a time.”

Bloyer has also been arrested and has been charged with homicide in connection with the 2-year-old’s death.
