Nurse practitioner joins Franciscan in Valparaiso

Family medicine nurse practitioner Jennifer Milchak is now part of the Franciscan Physician Network in Valparaiso, according to a release.

Milchak is board-certified and earned her master of science degree as a nurse practitioner from Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, the

release said. She earned her bachelor of science degree in nursing from Purdue University Northwest in Hammond.

In addition to family medicine, Milchak’s clinical interests include physicals, well exams, pediatrics, newborns, adolescents, ADD, ADHD,

preventative healthcare, screenings, patient education and women’s health, the release said. Milchak is accepting new patients at the

Franciscan Physician Network Valparaiso Health Center, 2421 LaPorte Ave. in Valparaiso. Call 219-462-6192.

PNW Nursing faculty member earns Fulbright award

Purdue University Northwest (PNW) associate professor of Nursing, Janet H. Davis, received a U.S. Fulbright Faculty Scholar award to

develop and strengthen Nursing leadership and teaching in Sri Lanka during the 2024-25 academic year, according to a release.

Davis will be hosted by the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Colombo. Her Fulbright engagement objectives center on using evidence-based practices that will augment nursing leadership and practice, both in higher education and applied settings, the release said.

Davis’ scholarly background focuses on evidence-based practice for minority registered nurse workforce development and health disparities, as well as community health nursing and community engaged education, the release said.

Franciscan Health Michigan City staff honored

Franciscan Health Michigan City staff members were recently honored with the hospitals’ annual awards, according to a release.

Emergency department nurse LeAnn Collins received the St. Camillus Award, presented each year to a nurse chosen by the medical staff.

Emergency medicine physician Dr. Christina Foreman received the St. Luke Award and environmental services associate Frank Serrano received the St. Joseph Award, the release said.

Registration opens for 2024-25 Leadership Northwest Indiana

The Leadership Institute at Purdue Northwest (PNW) has opened applications for the 2024-2025 Leadership Northwest Indiana (LNI) program, according to a release.

The leadership program, facilitated by a team that includes faculty members from the PNW College of Business, as well as leadership

practitioners, meets once a month for eight months. The facilitation team provides research-based leadership content and skill-building for

effective leadership in the workplace and in life, the release said.
