The Atlanta Falcons signed Kirk Cousins this offseason, even with the 35-year-old quarterback coming off an Achilles injury. So, it was a fair assumption that with the No. 8 overall pick they would address another position or potentially trade-down.

But the Falcons instead provided the most shocking pick in the Top 10 of the 2024 NFL Draft by taking QB Michael Penix Jr. The betting markets were shocked as well, as Penix Jr. had 66-1 odds at BetMGM to go No. 8 overall. At most sportsbooks, Dallas Turner and Laiatu Latu were the favorites to be picked at No. 8.

Only 5.7 percent of tickets and 1.8 percent of total dollars wagered in the No. 8 market at BetMGM were on Penix Jr.

A true shocker early in the draft.
