Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin began work this past week to relocate a monument from its former campus on Center Street to its current location on Randall Road.
The monument marked what was once the Cooper Avenue entrance to the hospital. Advocate Sherman public affairs manager Kirsten Johnson said that in honor of the hospital’s 135th anniversary, a public monument re-installation ceremony will be held in July.
The hospital moved to Randall Road in late 2009, and the 14-acre campus was sold to Chicago-based Freedom Development Group in 2019. When that company went into foreclosure, a Kane County judge approved an order that gave Westridge Lending LLC ownership of the site.
School District U-46 has a letter of intent to potentially buy the site, which includes a 254,000-square-foot hospital building, parking lot and open land, but there has been no decision if the district will move forward with the purchase.
