Wordle, the online brainteaser that’s become a global sensation, has released its latest puzzle.

The game was created by New York-based software developer Josh Wardle, who first made it available to the public in October 2021.

Players are tasked with guessing a five-letter word in six attempts or less. After each guess the letters light up in different colors, indicating how accurate the prediction was. If a letter is both in the word, and in the correct place, it lights up green. Yellow means the letter is correct, but not in the right place, whilst grey means it is not in the word at all.

Wardle said he originally aimed to “make a game that my partner would enjoy playing.”

The word game Wordle is shown on a mobile phone on January 12, 2022 in Houston, Texas. Newsweek has provided some hints and tips to help you work out today’s puzzle.

Speaking to Newsweek he explained the game first took off in a big way on social media amongst New Zealanders.

The British-born New Yorker said: “For obvious reasons, Wordle has mostly been popular in English-speaking countries. After all, it is a language-based game.

“When it launched, it actually took hold in New Zealand first…which is something I’ve never experienced before.

“The Twittersphere over there is quite small, so everyone tends to be rather interconnected. That means that if one person shares something, a lot of others are likely to see it as well, which is how Wordle gained such momentum.”

Wordle, now owned by the New York Times, has inspired a number of other online puzzles including Dordle and Worldle.

The answer to today’s Wordle will be revealed at the end of this article, so scroll down with caution. To help you solve it, Newsweek has provided some hints and tips on the latest puzzle.
