Carpentersville police are investigating a shooting that happened Tuesday morning on the village’s east side.

A man was taken to an area hospital after he called police to say he had been shot in the 1500 block of Kings Road near Dundee Crown High School, the police department reported via social media.

The high school and nearby Perry Elementary School were put on a soft lock down for a short time while the situation was investigated, the report said.

No information on the shooting or the victim’s medical condition were provided. Police said there was no danger to the public or the nearby schools.

Nominations are being sought for the 2022 Elgin Image Awards presented by the Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce.

The awards, which were put on hold during the COVID-19 pandemic, can go to a person, organization or a worthy project that took place between 2020 and now, organizers said.

Award categories are individual who has contributed to improving Elgin’s image; an exceptional volunteer; a game-changing project; an organization or business that’s worked to improve Elgin’s image; a green initiative or business; excellence in building equity; or a youth service project.

The nomination deadline is Oct. 7. Winners will be announced Nov. 1.

The Kane County Regional Office of Education is holding a weekly student photography contest starting Monday, Sept. 26, and running through Monday, Nov. 21.

Open to all high school students in Kane County, submitted photos will be reviewed by a Regional Office of Education committee, with the top 10 winners published on the office’s website, www.KaneROE.org, and its Facebook page.

Teachers approve their students’ photos and are responsible for verifying the authenticity and providing information for each submission. There will be a different theme for each week.

Carpentersville Fire Fighters Local 4790 is selling a line of T-shirts, baseball caps and other gear with a “bomberos” logo to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.

Union members also will be wear the T-shirts while on duty for the month starting Sept. 15. All proceeds will be donated to local nonprofits.

Bomberos is Spanish for firefighter.

Prices start at $17 and gear comes in adult and children’s sizes. Orders can be placed through Sept. 25 by going to cvillebomberos.itemorder.com/shop/home.

Friends of the Fox River is hosting a wide variety of events Saturday, Sept. 17, as part of the annual Fox River Day.

Among them will be riverbank cleanups starting at 8 a.m. at the north parking lot of Otto Engineering at Main and Wisconsin streets in Carpentersville; 9 a.m. at Voyagers Landing Forest Preserve, 50 Airport Road, Elgin; and 10 a.m. at Trout Park River’s Edge, south of the Interstate 90 overpass in Elgin.
