Beitbridge-Masvingo Bus Accident Death Toll Rises to 26

The death toll from the tragic Beitbridge-Masvingo bus accident has risen to 26, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed in a statement on Friday evening.

The accident happened at the 262-kilometre mark along the Masvingo-Beitbridge Road, near Lutumba tollgate. Seventeen people lost their lives at the scene, while seven more died in hospital. Another victim succumbed the next day, bringing the total to 25. The government provided state-assisted funerals, and a service was held for the victims.

On Wednesday, an adult female passenger who had been hospitalized at Parirenyatwa Hospital passed away, increasing the death toll to 26.

“Reference is made to the Zimbabwe Republic Police press statement released on 14th February 2025 regarding a fatal road traffic accident at the 262-kilometre peg along Masvingo-Beitbridge Road, near Lutumba tollgate. The death toll has risen to 26 after a female adult, who was admitted at Parirenyatwa Hospital, died on 19 February 2025,” Nyathi said.

Police Appeal for Help Identifying Two Victims

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi also urged the public to help identify two victims from the crash.

“The first unidentified victim is a male adult who was wearing a red t-shirt and black trousers at the time of the accident. The second victim is a female adult who was wearing a black jersey and black trousers,” Nyathi explained
