‘Wordle’ #1,065 Hints and Answer for Sunday, May 19 Game

Wordle is back with yet another daily puzzle this Sunday morning—and Newsweek has all the tips and tricks you need to add another win to your streak.

Created by Josh Wardle, a British software engineer, Wordle took the world by storm during the coronavirus pandemic in 2021. It achieved such popularity that it was acquired by the New York Times in January 2022 for an undisclosed seven-figure sum.

Wordle is simple to play. The sole objective is to deduct the daily five-letter word in as few attempts as possible. The game presents a new word every 24 hours, granting players six guesses. When a letter is correctly placed, it transforms into a green tile. If a letter is part of the correct answer but occupies an incorrect position, it becomes yellow. If a letter is not present in the word at all, the corresponding tile turns gray.

“One thing that I think is important in this game is the starting word chosen. Starting off with words that include commonly used vowels, for example, e and a, consonants such as r and t, and sound sequences might be helpful,” Erhan Aslan, who teaches applied linguistics at the University of Reading in the U.K., previously told Newsweek. “Choosing a word that starts with q, z, j, or x, for instance, may not be the best choice.

“As you get more feedback after a few guesses, users need to draw on some knowledge of phonics to narrow down or eliminate some words that they might be thinking. For example, if the second letter of the target word is l (indicated by green) and the player feels that the word starts with a consonant, they will need to know that there are only a few consonant cluster possibilities (such as bl, cl, fl, gl, pl, sl).”

The answer to today’s puzzle will be revealed at the end of this page, so scroll with caution if you’re committed to figuring the answer out on your own.
