Former Homeland Security official tells ABC News that security violations are often just accidents
We’re all ears when “former” government officials weigh in on current events, like when 50 former intelligence officials said the Hunter Biden laptop story was Russian disinformation. It turns out that John Cohen is an ABC News contributor as well as the former acting undersecretary for intelligence and analysis at the Department of Homeland Security. We were wondering … did ABC News track down this guy so they could write the story they wanted to write? Turns out he’s in house, and he says that security violations, like leaving classified documents in your garage, are often just accidents.
“Security violations sound very, very nefarious, but in many cases, they’re just accidents.”

Cohen told ABC News:
Think of it this way: I don’t know what your desk is like, but mine’s pretty messy. And when I was working in some of my offices, I would have stacks of paper that were unclassified, stacks of paper that were classified, and I literally had a staff person who every day looked to see what was going into my briefcase to make sure that I didn’t accidentally miss a classified piece of information and accidentally bring it home.
…
You know we know that the documents in Mar-a-Lago had those cover sheets, right? Those brightly covered cover sheets with big letters stamped on it that said top secret, sensitive, [or] compartmented intelligence. But, we have not heard yet whether cover sheets were on the material found in the Biden home. So, there’s a lot to learn still. Security violations sound very, very nefarious, but in many cases, they’re just accidents.
There’s a lot we haven’t heard about the documents found in Biden’s home. In Donald Trump’s case, the media were speculating that the documents were nuclear secrets.
And some folks are currently in prison because of these accidents

An accident that happened 4 times in 4 different places.

Yes. They are very nefarious when comitted by a Republican, and “accidents” when comitted by a Democrat. As ALL other offenses. 😆

I can’t find your “it’s no big deal” tweet about Trump and you don’t have “classified” in bold when referencing Biden. pic.twitter.com/DyQukfm5C7

And there is annual training that is required to ensure this type of information is protected. Guess the regular employees will have to do more training to make up for his mishandling of info

No one would say “it was just an accident” if this was a cyber breach into Pentagon systems.

Funny, security violations are deemed pretty nefarious when it’s regular folk who are the ones committing them. They actually go to prison.
I thought that President Biden said.. “No one is above the law.” Yet, here we are… 🙄— Holly Thornton (@beachmamax2) January 16, 2023
Lmao. Pathetic. This is embarrassing how hard you all will bend the knee to him. Negligence isn’t a way of escaping breaking the law.

“Look guys, sometimes taking classified documents is actually totally fine…”

Since when does law enforcement allow a suspect’s lawyers to conduct a search?

John Cohen and ABC slurping away

I want federal agents with guns searching every single inch of all of his private property for more “accidents”

Where was Cohen when the FBI raided Mar-a-Lago and leaked photos of all the classified documents spread out on the floor?
