The Atlanta Braves had a forgettable start to the 2025 season. They began the season on the road against the San Diego Padres and got swept in a four-game series. The team scored only seven runs in those games and did not have many positives to take away from it.

But the Braves are not waiting around when making roster moves. They have already designated Héctor Neris for assignment and recalled a familiar veteran.

Jesse Chavez Returns to Braves

The Braves recalled Jesse Chavez, who has pitched in Atlanta for the last three seasons. He is 41 but coming off a solid season from the Braves’ bullpen. He threw 63.1 innings, striking out 55 batters with a 3.13 ERA. It is hard to believe he can remain productive past the age of 40, but the Braves are willing to give him another shot in 2025.

Right-hander Jesse Chavez is being called up by the Atlanta Braves, sources tell ESPN.

Chavez is set to pitch in his 18th MLB season, and you cannot stay in the league that long without being effective. While he does not throw hard, he has effective pitches and can keep hitters off balance. It will be interesting to see what role the Braves use Chavez in now that he is back with the team.

Braves Hoping To Get in the Win Column

After starting the season 0-4, the Braves head to Los Angeles to face the defending World Series champion Dodgers. The Dodgers are 5-0, as both teams started the season on different ends of the spectrum. This three-game series is one the Braves need to win. Not only will it get them in the win column, but winning a series over the Dodgers would be a confidence booster for any team.

Atlanta has a much better roster than their record shows. They have multiple-time All-Stars in their lineup and pitching staff. There is no question that the Braves miss Ronald Acuña Jr. and Spencer Strider, who should return at some point in May. The Braves hope to remain in contention at that point, which means they need to start winning soon.

They look to Matt Olson, Ozzie Albies, Marcell Ozuna, and Michael Harris, among others, to lead the way. Each player can carry the offense, and if they are at their best, this could be one of the top offenses in baseball. Coming into the season, the Braves were on the shortlist of teams that could win the World Series. While their start has been disappointing, it is not time to panic.
