Town Square Playhouse Encore Competition Team Wins Top Awards at Access Broadway Atlanta Regional Competition

FAYETTEVILLE, GA – Town Square Playhouse’s Encore Competition Team dominated the stage at the Atlanta Regional Access Broadway competition, held in Flowery Branch from February 28 through March 2. Competing against thousands of students from nine major theatre and dance studios, the team delivered unforgettable performances, earning multiple top honors, including two first-place Broadway Star trophies— the highest award in each category.
The Encore Team, comprised of thirteen students ranging from ages 5 to 17, competed in various categories, showcasing their incredible talent in solos, duets, and group performances. In a historic first for Town Square Playhouse at the Atlanta Regional Access Broadway competition, the team took home first-place Broadway Star trophies in two categories:
– Best Teen Musical Theatre Group, Debut Division for their electrifying performance of “Sit Down You’re Rocking the Boat” from Guys and Dolls.
– Best Senior Vocalist, Debut Division awarded to Chris Scott for his breathtaking rendition of “Mr. Cellophane” from Chicago.
In addition to these top-tier accolades, competitors amassed ten Platinum medals and ten High Gold medals for their solos and duets. Among the standout performers was high school senior Gracyn Thompson, a longtime Town Square Playhouse student, who won an astounding seven Platinum awards for her exceptional solo and duet performances.
This marks Town Square Playhouse’s third consecutive year competing at the Atlanta Regional Access Broadway competition and their most successful regional showing to date. Last summer, the Encore Team also dominated the national stage at the Access Broadway Nationals in Dollywood, TN, bringing home a first-place Broadway Star trophy for their group number.
“These students have worked so hard, and their passion, discipline, and talent truly shined on stage this weekend,” said Fracena Byrd, Owner and Artistic Director of Town Square Playhouse. “To see them bring home first-place Broadway Star trophies at the regional level for the first time is an incredible achievement. Their hard work and perseverance have paid off, and I couldn’t be prouder of them.”
Alison Graham, Competition Team Director, echoed Byrd’s excitement, saying, “This team continues to amaze me with their dedication and growth. Every single one of them put in the effort, and it showed in their performances. Winning these first-place awards is a testament to their incredible commitment and the supportive community we’ve built at Town Square Playhouse. We are building champions, and this is just the beginning!”
With their latest success, the Encore Team is setting its sights on even greater achievements in future competitions.
