James Kenneth “Ken” Hazelton, 83
James Kenneth “Ken” Hazelton, age 83, of Fayetteville, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 16, 2025. He was born on November 25, 1941, in Atlanta, Georgia, to the late James Alford and Jessie Opal Hazelton. He had one sister, the late Nancy Epstein, who is survived by her husband Bob Epstein. Ken was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who lived a life full of love, dedication and service.
Ken grew up in Fayette County, where he met his lifelong partner, Harriett Elaine Stinchcomb. The two knew each other throughout grade school and were married on August 31, 1963, sharing 61 wonderful years together. Their union was blessed with four children: Bryan, Michael, Susan, and Steven.
A proud veteran, Ken served his country in Vietnam and continued his service in the Army Reserves, achieving the rank of Captain before his honorable discharge. After his military service, he dedicated 35 years to the American Can Company as a customer service representative, where he was known for his loyalty and commitment to service.
Ken had a passion for fishing, cooking, reading, and anything about military history. He was a devoted husband, a generous father, and a cherished grandfather to 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife, Harriett Elaine, his children, Bryan and his wife Jennifer, Michael and his wife Michelle, Susan and her husband Ken Sampler, and his son Steven; grandchildren, Joseph, Jacob, Jessica and her husband Dustin Higgins, Jordan, Jonathan, Nathan, Colton, Madison, Hope and her husband Garrett Helwig, and his grandson Hugh; great-grandchildren, Jackson, Dax Higgins, Declan Higgins, and great grand-daughter Jameson.
His legacy of love and service will be remembered by all who knew him. The Hazelton Family would welcome family and friends to share memories on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Mowell Funeral Home from 12:00 – 2:30 PM. A private graveside service will be held for the family afterwards. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Wounded Warrior Project in Ken’s memory.
