Diplo rang in 2025 in an altered state. The DJ and music producer shocked and delighted Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen on CNN’s New Year’s Eve special by revealing that he was tripping while he appeared virtually on the cable news network.
“I’m so curious, what’s the most conventional place that you’ve done LSD?” Cohen asked the music star.
Diplo responded: “Right now.” Before adding: “I did some on the helicopter, on the way here…I’m not even lying.”
The co-hosts burst out laughing as Diplo clarified that he was showing some restraint. “It’s like a light trip,” he noted. It must have been a microdose, because Diplo was able to perform at three shows in Los Angeles on New Year’s Eve. He also previously admitted to dosing while running in the L.A. marathon as part of an unusual training regimen. “I did what any normal person would do and took LSD,” he wrote on Instagram.
Cooper sounded impressed with Diplo’s approach to work and play. ““I wish I was Diplo,” the CNN anchor admitted. “I got to say. I just think he has a fun, cool lifestyle. Can you imagine his lifestyle?”
“How does he work?” Cooper added. “How does anybody do anything? I’ve had four shots. I just want to go to sleep.”
A rep for Diplo did not immediately respond to Variety‘s request for comment.
Diplo’s drug-enhanced appearance wasn’t the only highlight of Cooper and Cohen’s countdown to 2025. The pair also welcomed Oscar-nominated thespian Ralph Fiennes, who regaled them with his interpretation of the viral TikTok monologue on how to be “demure” by social media influencer Jools Lebron. Fiennes did not mention anything about tripping.
