Willmott Dixon’s repairs and maintenance business Fortem has extended its partnership with Birmingham City Council by two years.
The two-year extension will be worth £170m and takes the partnership length to 18 years in total.
Fortem will continue to deliver repairs, maintenance and gas services to homes in the city. Wards that Fortem delivers 24-hour call-out services to include Northfield District, Longbridge, Selly Oak, King’s Norton, Edgbaston, Bartley Green, Harborne and Moseley.
The contractor carries out planned installation including kitchens, bathrooms, heating systems and other fixtures and fittings in addition to preparing vacant properties for tenants.
It has also worked with more than 100 local apprentices over the 16 years it has worked with the council, 95 per cent of the workforce is recruited locally, and 95 per cent of the supply chain spend has been with local businesses.
Birmingham City Council’s strategic director for city housing Paul Langford said: “[Fortem’s] commitment to delivering high-quality and efficient services to our residents, along with its focus on social mobility and upskilling, has been invaluable over the years.”
Fortem generated a pre-tax loss of £4m from turnover of £132.8m in its latest accounts, which covered the year ending 31 December 2022.
Directors cited “significant inflationary factors with [an] increase in costs outstripping CPI inflation, along with the labour and materials shortages. There has also been the need to address some complex cladding-related issues on a completed towers project”.
In February, Fortem was named as one of the 100 contractors on a four-year, £3.2bn framework focused on social housing repairs including electrical, heating, roofing and brickwork.
