One of the things that’s been clear for the Philadelphia 76ers in their series against the Celtics is the need for a second scorer to step up. James Harden did just that in both Games 1 and 4, scoring 45 points and 42 points, respectively, in those matchups. One of the young players who had been largely overlooked in this series is Tyrese Maxey.
Maxey dropped 26 points on 10-24 shooting in Game 1, but only managed to contribute 13.3 points per game in Games 2-4. He bounced back in a big way in Game 5, shooting 10-21 from the field (47.6%), including a stellar 6-12 from beyond the arc (50.0%). That increased scoring output allowed Harden to return to more of a facilitator role, like he served throughout much of the regular season. If Maxey is on his game tonight, Philadelphia has a legitimate chance to end this series on their home court.
Nikola Jokic Can Knock Out the Suns
The Nuggets-Suns series has been one of extreme highs and lows. The home team is 5-0 thus far in the series, and Phoenix will need to make it 6-0 to force a Game 7 back in Denver. Nikola Jokic has played well at home, but he’s also played some strong games in in the desert at the Footprint Center.
Considering that Jokic has averaged 41.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 14.0 assists per game in two matchups in Phoenix, one could argue every game is a home game for the two-time MVP. Jokic’s 30.6 points per game this postseason are good enough for fourth in the entire league, while teammate Jamal Murray’s 25.9 points per game has him in a strong 11th place. If Murray can replicate the 30.0 points per game he’s averaged in Phoenix this series, there’s a strong likelihood that the Nuggets will buck the home-court advantage trend and steal a win in Game 6.
