Freddie Freeman’s former agency refutes rumor of ‘duping’ superstar
Rumors started on Wednesday that Freddie Freeman’s former agent duped him into leaving the Braves for the Dodgers, but the agency is now refuting that.
A potential bombshell rumor dropped on Wednesday in the aftermath of Freddie Freeman making his emotional return to Atlanta to face the Braves, the team he’d spent his entire career with prior to this offseason when he signed a six-year pact with the Los Angeles Dodgers. It was that free agency move at the center of the rumor, though.
FOX Sports’ Doug Gottlieb — a source that should be taken with a grain of salt when it comes to baseball — tweeted out a rumor that Freeman’s agent, Casey Close, who the star first baseman parted ways with this week, essentially duped him out of staying with the Braves.
According to Gottlieb, the reason for the split between Freeman and Excel Sports was that his agent never told him the final offer from Atlanta, which ultimately led to him signing with the Dodgers.
Freddie Freeman: Former agency refutes rumor he was duped into leaving Braves
Naturally, with that serious of an allegation in the air, Excel Sports had to respond and did so emphatically, stating that Gottlieb’s statement was false and that they are looking into potential legal action as a result of what they called “reckless publication of inaccurate information”.
Statement on behalf of Casey Close:
Doug Gottlieb tweeted a wholly inaccurate characterization of our negotiations with the Atlanta Braves on behalf of Freddie Freeman. We are immediately evaluating all legal options to address the reckless publication of inaccurate information.

Not that this situation wasn’t ugly already, but it seems as if it’s only getting uglier.
Freeman has not yet addressed the report about Close from Gottlieb, which would certainly shed more light on the matter at hand. But until that happens, it’s going to be a lot more “he said, he said” and finger-pointing such as this instance.
