Family members of the Clouses have been searching for answers since the married couple and their daughter vanished in 1980.
On Wednesday, the Texas Attorney General’s Office announced that Holly had been found alive and well, now 42 years old.
Investigators apparently walked into Holly’s workplace this week, in Oklahoma, and told her who she was, leading to her being reunited virtually with her biological family members.
On Thursday afternoon, the Texas Attorney General’s Office held a news conference that answered questions about who raised Holly.
The news conference began with a plea to the public asking anyone with information on the case to come forward.
First Assistant Attorney General Brent Webster described the case as “an ongoing criminal investigation,” and stressed that there were details he wouldn’t be able to discuss.
Webster said family members of Tina Gail Linn Clouse and Harold Dean Clouse Jr. began digging for answers regarding what happened to baby Holly as soon as they learned in 2021 that the bodies found in the wooded area in Texas belonged to the Clouses.
He stated that Holly was left at a church in Arizona and taken into their care. Two members of nomadic religious group brought her. The women, dressed in white robes, stated their beliefs included the separation of men and women, a vegetarian lifestyle, and not wearing leather goods.
Webster emphasized the family who raised Holly are not suspects.
Officials believed the religious group that gave Holly to the church traveled around the southwestern United States in the 1980s.
Webster explained that in late December of 1980, the victims’ families received a call from a “Sister Susan” about finding the Clouses’ car in California. She asked for money in exchange for returning the car. The family agreed to meet but also filed a police report, which has yet to be recovered by Texas authorities.
When the family met with “Sister Susan” she told them that the family had joined the religious group and wanted nothing to do with their family or worldly possessions any longer.
The vehicle was described as a 1978 two-door red burgundy AMC Concord.
Holly’s biological family has been overwhelmed with joy since being reunited with her, Webster said.
The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children is paying for Holly to be reunited with her biological family in person.
“Finding Holly is a birthday present from heaven since we found her on Junior’s birthday. I prayed for more than 40 years for answers and the Lord has revealed some of it… we have found Holly,” said Holly’s grandmother, Donna Casasanta. “Thank you to all of the investigators for working so hard to find Holly. I prayed for them day after day and that they would find Holly and she would be alright. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to Mindy Montford. We will be forever grateful.”
“After finally being able to reunite with Holly, I dreamed about her and my sister, Tina last night. I believe Tina’s finally resting in peace knowing Holly is reuniting with her family. I personally am so relieved to know Holly is alive and well and was well cared for, but also torn up by it all. Officials said the Lewisville Police Department, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, the Arizona Attorney General’s Office, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children all contributed to Holly being found.
The investigation into the murders of Holly’s biological parents is ongoing. Anyone with information about their deaths is asked to contact the Texas Attorney General’s Cold Case and Missing Persons Unit at [email protected].
